Hi there. I'm an artist based in Kent ...and I like to paint plants.
I graduated with a BA(hons) in Fine Art back in 2011 from the University of the Creative Arts, Canterbury, and I'm still committed to creating. In order to continue expanding my art practice, I use different mediums to investigate the painted surface; and you'll find me using a lot of oils, a little bit of acrylic, and a hint of gouache. Smooth wooden panels are my first choice of surface, but I also dabble with textured canvas, aluminium, and collage making.
Drawing, mapping out, mark-making and the whole process of creating a painting is just as important as the final image itself. Even the preparation of priming and sanding the panels is a rewarding part of the making. Equal to the application of paint itself is it's removal and reworking; achieved with thinners, scraping paint away with palette knives, and pressing away with cloth.
Important motifs that recur throughout my practice include botanical imagery, and abstractions of the human form, with inspiration from botanical gardens and museums. Themes of tropical environments are a way of escaping day to day life, as plants literally breathe new life into my paintings.
